Growing up in a low-income area it was a natural occurrence to see a group of people going from door to door asking for financial donations to help bury their loved one. All the neighbors would give whatever they could to help. I can remember the shame on their faces and the dignity that was being stripped from their loved ones. Unfortunately, death is the last thing we prepare for even though it is a journey we all must take.
As a pastor I considered my congregation and wondered how we could help those who are not able to pay the premiums for life insurance. After prayer I believe the Lord led me to form the Jubilee Foundation, Inc. The foundation needed to be its on entity not associated to one specific church, though it would be a faith-based organization, it would be able to work with other churches who could be facing the same issue. The foundation would one day expand to include financial management and life skills management to help improve the quality of living for each participant. Funding for operations would be supported by donors and fundraisers.
In 2007 Jubilee Foundation was established as a non-profit organization, a team was formed, and the ministry formation began.
Mission
The Jubilee Foundation is formed to provide financial assistance to low-income families
who cannot fund their own burial insurance policy. The foundation will initially assist families on a smaller scale but will expand its scope of assistance to include:
1) Financial counseling (financial responsibility)
2) Life-skills management counseling
3) Making available to the applicant a group of funeral homes to provide funeral
arrangements
4) Bearing the expense of the insurance burial premium based on the financial need of applicant
Vision
The foundation's vision is to walk with people through one of the hardest time of life and remind them that Jesus cares for them, we are His representatives.
